Simms Electronics is seeking a full time Electronics Lab Technician to support the design, development, testing, and repair of electronic circuits, systems, and components. This role involves performing diagnostic testing, documenting results, test fixture building, and maintaining lab equipment to ensure a safe and efficient working environment. The technician works closely with engineers to help bring concepts from design to production. 

Qualified candidates for this role will possess the following qualifications: 

  • Assemble, solder, and rework electronic components, PCBs, and prototypes. 

  • Perform functional and performance tests using oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, and other diagnostic tools. 

  • Support engineers in troubleshooting and debugging electronic hardware. 

  • Maintain accurate records of tests, measurements, and component usage. 

  • Calibrate and maintain lab instruments and equipment. 

  • Assist in documenting processes, test procedures, and findings. 

  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth project execution. 

  • Manage lab inventory and request supplies as needed. 

Qualifications 

Education & Experience: 

  • Associate degree or certification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field. 

  • Some experience in an electronics lab or similar technical role. Entry-level candidates with strong skills will be considered. 

Technical Skills: 

  • Proficiency in reading schematics, datasheets, and technical documentation. 

  • Experience with soldering (through-hole and surface mount). 

  • Experience with wiring both AC and DC. 

  • Familiarity with common lab equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and function generators. 

  • Basic understanding of electronic circuit theory and troubleshooting techniques.

Soft Skills: 

  • Strong attention to detail and organization. 

  • Ability to follow technical instructions accurately. 

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills. 

  • Self-motivated with a proactive problem-solving mindset. 

Preferred Qualifications (Optional) 

  • IPC soldering certification (e.g., J-STD-001 or IPC-A-610). 

  • Experience with automated test equipment or National Instruments Lab Windows. 

  • C and Python programming languages. 

  • Background in quality control or regulatory compliance for electronics. 

Physical & Work Environment Requirements 

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. 

  • Manual dexterity for handling small components and tools. 

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally. 

  • Work performed in a lab environment with standard safety procedures. 

Compensation & Benefits 

  • Ten days paid vacation after three months of employment.

  • Starting salary range depending on experience; $22 per hour - $30 per hour
